BIO

I started my journey in 1992. I did my medical internship at King Edward Hospital in Durban . In 1993 I started working as a general practitioner in Newcastle as the first female medical doctor in the area. It was during this period that I was exposed to the need for mental health specialised services. I am a founding member of an NGO called Christians against child abuse . We visit preschools and primary schools, educating them about child sexual abuse.

Newcastle and the whole of northern natal had only one non- South African specialist. In 1999, I went back to KEH where I joined the department of paediatrics (I had always thought I would specialise in paediatrics) . I obtained a diploma in child health in 1999 from the college of Paediatricians South Africa. In 2000, I went back to private practice for social reasons. In 2004, after much consideration I accepted a post to train as a psychiatrist at Nelson Mandela school of medicine. I obtained FCPsych in 2008 from the college of psychiatrist.
